Abstract

R2 Heater is a redesign of an halogen ovens focusing in create an IoT and interactive product that is connected inside your house, meeting the needs of warming food whenever you need, with a user friendly interface and a 360° shape to increase the user experience of having a heating systems that keeps the quality of the food.

Problem setting

An extensive secondary research was performed, including IoT analysis, surveys, benchmarking, persona, user journey and need finding that helped us to guide correctly our final design choice.

Brief

R2 Heater is a new system with an intuitive interface and a clear-open shape that warms up your food by keeping the same quality. The shape is made to fit inside any type of container, at the side is located a water reservoir that spreads water via piezoelectric to keep the quality of your food, along with the connectivity of the inner camera and the IR sensor. All this to gave the best user experience at the moment of heat up your meals.

Dimensions and main features

Components

All the components were designed for manufacturing in solidworks. Creating a top-down modeling with different subassemblies and integrating commercial components to have just a few parts in production. The interface and electronic components were selected based on fast prototype components with the aim of create in a future it owns dedicated embedded circuit.

Market comparison

A market comparison was made in order to show the added value of R2 heater compared with the similar market proposals.

Prototype

An interaction prototype of the interface was made, coded in Arduino to represent the main user experience. This interface was integrated into a 1:1 mockup to have a real understanding of the size and placement inside the house.
